Drugs and alcohol, banned imports

The legal age for alcohol consumption at a licenced premises, such as a bar or restaurant is 18. These businesses will also refuse to supply alcohol if they think a customer is drunk.

It is illegal to drink in public places such as on the street, at the beach or in a park.

Smoking is prohibited in most public buildings and near their entrances, including bars and restaurants, on public transport and in transport hubs and in many hotel rooms.

It is also a very serious offence to drive while under the influence (DUI) with a maximum of 0.05 blood alcohol concentration legally tolerated.

You can only bring in 2.25 litres of alcohol and 1 sealed and one open packet of 25 cigarettes, duty free when arriving from overseas. If you buy a carton of cigarettes you may be charged duty.

In general, you can not bring animal and plant matter, weapons and other drugs into the country.

Cannabis is illegal in Western Australia as are all other hard drugs.

Also, since the start of 2024, disposable vapes have been banned.
